About the JPG to PNG Converter
PNG is a lossless format that stores every pixel exactly and supports transparency, which makes it the right choice when you plan to edit an image or place it over other content. This tool converts your JPGs to PNG locally in your browser, with no upload and no watermark.
PNG cannot undo JPG compression
This is worth being blunt about, because a lot of pages imply otherwise. JPG threw detail away when the file was first saved, and nothing can bring it back. Converting to PNG gives you a lossless container from this point forward — the blocking, the ringing around text, the smeared fine detail already in the JPG all stay exactly as they are. The file will usually get bigger, often three to five times, because PNG stores JPG's smoothed blocks pixel-for-pixel with no further compression of its own. A larger file that looks identical is the expected result here, not a sign something went wrong.
When the conversion still earns its keep
Editing is the real reason. Every time you re-save a JPG it is re-compressed, so a crop, an annotation and an export stack three generations of loss onto the same image. Convert once to PNG, do all the intermediate work there, and export to JPG at the end. It is also the move when you need transparency later — you can erase a background in a PNG and keep the soft edge, which a JPG has no channel to store — and when a platform simply demands PNG, as some print portals, app-icon uploaders and slide templates do.
Frequently asked questions
Will converting JPG to PNG improve quality?
No — PNG is lossless, but it cannot restore detail that JPG already discarded. It gives you a clean, lossless copy going forward, which is useful for editing, but it will not "un-compress" the original.
Is it free and private?
Yes. It is free with no sign-up, and every image is converted on your device — nothing is uploaded to a server.
