About the WebP to JPG Converter
WebP is a modern web format, but plenty of apps, editors, and older devices still cannot open it. Converting to JPG makes an image work everywhere. This tool re-encodes your WebP files to JPG on your own device, with no upload and no sign-up.
What survives the conversion
WebP is really three formats in one container: lossy, lossless, and animated, any of which can carry an alpha channel. JPG has none of those capabilities. A still lossy WebP converts almost invisibly — it is one lossy photo format re-encoded as another, and at quality 85 or above you will not see the difference. An animated WebP yields its first frame only, because the converter decodes a single bitmap. Transparent regions are flattened onto a solid background. Expect the JPG to come out somewhat larger than the WebP it came from at matched quality; that is the cost of universal compatibility, not a fault in the conversion.
When to keep the WebP
For anything served on a web page, keep it. Every current browser reads WebP and the files run 25–35% smaller than an equivalent JPG, which is free page speed. Convert when the destination is outside a browser: a desktop image editor, an older version of Office, an email client that shows a broken-image icon, a print shop, or an upload form that checks the file extension. The practical pattern is to keep WebP as what your site serves and generate a JPG for the specific file you need to hand to a person.
Frequently asked questions
Why convert WebP to JPG?
Some programs and devices cannot open WebP. JPG is universally supported, so converting guarantees the image opens anywhere you send it.
Does the conversion happen on a server?
No. Everything runs in your browser, so your images are never uploaded and there is no waiting on a server.
